Announcing MangoApps OpenAPI for Network Owners and Application Developers

by ianh on July 29th, 2010
Comments Off

With the growing popularity of our collaboration suite, companies and developers have been requesting Application Programming Interfaces (API’s) for deeper integration. MangoSpring is thrilled to announce MangoApps OpenAPI’s for developers and MangoApp network owners.

What is it and why should you care?

Using MangoApps OpenAPI, developers and domain owners can:

  • Securely access all domain data using familiar, easy to use, RESTful interfaces. This simple integration enables domain administrators to access content generated and stored in MangoApps by their users for data mining, archiving and analysis using tools already in use within the company.
  • Build custom MangoApps. Developers are now empowered to extend MangoApps and create a custom web, desktop or mobile MangoApp to meet their unique needs and exactly match the workflow requirements of their business.

The MangoApps OpenAPI’s are part of the superset of MangoApps REST architecture that powers the MangoSpring Collaboration Suite.

How does MangoApps OpenAPI work?

The MangoApps OpenAPI package is a RESTful set of secure interfaces to the backend MangoApps content server. Each request generates an XML based response or recognizable HTTP error from the MangoApps backend server.

To protect the security of your domain data, qualified developers and authenticated domain administrators must:

  • Register with MangoSpring
  • Receive a 16 digit API Key from MangoSpring
  • Receive a unique and secret signature key from MangoSpring
  • Use the proper MangoApps OpenAPI syntax defined by our MangoApps OpenAPI Document. Query syntax includes parameters to authenticate the originator of any query using the API Key and encrypted Signature.

Easy steps to get started now with MangoApps OpenAPI:

  1. Send an email to openapis@mangospring.com to request your unique and secure authentication.
  2. Download the MangoApps OpenAPI Document
  3. Study and experiment with the Query Examples (Requests) in the OpenAPI document.

For more information on MangoApps OpenAPI, please visit our developers website or shoot us an email at openapis@mangospring.com.

Announcing Inline Documents, Photos and Streaming Video Support in MangoTalk Activity Streams

by ianh on July 26th, 2010

A simple user experience with the best features is the top priority here at MangoSpring. This notion is built into all apps in our MangoSuite with features that help you communicate faster and better than with any other tool. Whether by offering truly threaded microblog conversations that keep your entire company on the same page, or by managing your employee’s tasks to keep your corporate ship sailing on calm water, we strive to save you time and broadly inform your organization.

What’s in this release and why should you care?

This release includes 4 features that will simplify your experience in MangoApps.

  • The Inline View for Feed Attachments feature inclides an in-app viewer for several file types.
  • The Inline Play for FLV, MP3, and MP4 feature showcases our new MangoApps multimedia player.
  • The new Task Pop-up Toolbar allows for quick actions like viewing, completing, and deleting tasks to be taken on feeds directly from your “Pending Task” list. Task Details now pop in front of the task list you are looking at using the new Pop-up Task Details Dialog feature.
  • And the new Move to Project or Group capability easily moves a Status Update feed to a more appropriate project or group audience.

The “Inline View for Feed Attachments” idea at a glance:

Whether your attachment is a document, a multimedia file, or a picture, colleagues will recognize your attachment and assign urgency to viewing your attachment more quickly and easily. People relate urgency to the types of files that get attached to feeds. A “DOC” file type may be more important to some users than a “WAV” file type. This week we’re happy to add the simplicity of being able to visually recognize attachments’ file types and assign viewing urgency based on its icon.

Besides being able to easily recognize file types of feed attachments, multiple image attachments to the same feed can be viewed as a slide show right inside MangoSpring. Simply click one of the images to open the inline slideshow viewer.

Easy steps to get started now with “Inline View for Feed Attachments”:

  1. Create a feed that has multiple (more than 4) image attachments.
  2. Notice that the feed shows a “Left” and “Right” arrow denoting that you can scroll to the next or previous image by clicking the arrow.
  3. Click one of the images to open that image.
  4. You can cycle through the photos manually with the “Forward” or “Back” controls on the inline viewer or cycle automatically by clicking “Start Slideshow”.

The “Inline Play for FLV, MP3, and MP4 Content” idea at a glance:

MangoSpring makes it easier to play multimedia file attachments than ever before by playing them directly in the browser—saving the time and interruption of switching applications. We wanted users to not be distracted by first saving the multimedia file, then finding the application to play the file, then returning to MangoSpring web client to comment on the multimedia file they just played. Users were losing their place with all the distraction. By overcoming all the distractions, multimedia files can be easily and quickly be received, viewed and commented on right inside MangoSpring web client.

Easy steps go get started now with Inline Play:

  1. Post a feed with a multimedia attachment like FLV, MP3, or MP4
  2. Users can click to view your multimedia attachment.

The “Task Pop-up Toolbar and Task Details Dialog” idea at a glance:

Task completion just got a whole lot easier with the Task Pop-up Tool. Viewing details, marking tasks complete, and deleting tasks entirely can be done from the main “Task details” page on the “Pending Tasks” tab without changing views in the web client.
Icons to the right of the task summary display information about the task or carry out task actions. Icons include the “Notepad” icon indicating that notes are available for the task. The “Private” privacy setting is indicated by the “Lock” icon. The Task Details “Dialog Menu” icon opens the new Pop-up Task Details dialog window. The “Checkmark” icon will mark the task complete. The trash can icon will delete the task. When you’ve completed the action, you’re seamlessly returned to the main task window where you left off.

Easy steps to get started now with Task Pop-up Toolbars and Task Details Dialogs:

  1. Create a new task for yourself so it will show in you “Pending Tasks” list.
  2. Navigate to you “Pending Tasks” list by clicking “Tasks” feature from the feature list.
  3. Put your mouse pointer over any task to view the Task Pop-up Tool.
  4. Click on “Task Details” icon to open the dialog below:
  5. Click on the “Checkmark” icon to “Mark task as complete”. This action opens a popup dialog to enter more information into the task.
  6. Click on The “Trash Can” icon to “Delete Task”. Taking this action icon deletes the task after a confirmation window.

The “Move” feeds On-the-fly idea at a glance:

Part of the magic of “open” collaboration with your MangoApps peers is that casual discussion often explodes into an unexpectedly hot topic of discussion. Some topics that start as a general audience discussion actually should be tracked as part of the workflow of an existing project or group.

MangoApps’ new “Move” feature enables you to reposition topical discussions from the general feed audience into an existing project or group forum.

Easy steps to get started now with the “Move” feature:

  1. Create a new feed as a Status Update
  2. Click on the “Move” action link under your feed.
  3. Choose a radio button. If no project or group already exists, one can be immediately created around the hot topic to preserve the initial workflow discussion.
  4. Click the Move Conversation” button to move your feed will be moved to the group or project that you specify.
  5. View the result of “Moving” a feed from Main Feed to Project Feed:

Announcing MangoApps’ Email-to-Feed Feature

by ianh on July 26th, 2010
Comments Off

We are ecstatic to announce that with the latest release, you can now post feeds and comments to MangoApps directly from email. This new feature extends even further the “broadly socialized” information you communicate to your followers. This feature is, of course, available to all subscription plans immediately. Configure your email settings using the new UI and you’ll be able to forward emails from customers directly into the MangoApps main feed or to a group. If you’ve ever needed a reason to move even more communication and collaboration out of your email inbox and into MangoApps, then this release is your home run pitch to hit.

What is it and why should you care?

Email-to-Feed is the mechanism to get normal email communication out of your inbox and in front of the Main Feed, Project Feed, or Group Feed that your MangoApps followers are already watching. It saves time transposing emails into a document to attach to a MangoApps feed by allowing you to FW or CC an email into MangoApps feeds directly. Here’s an email from the user Play to the Poker group that MangoApps pulled in as a feed. Even more impressive, the user Ian was CC’d on the email and chose “Reply All” to the email and the email reply is listed as a comment to the feed.

Here is the idea at a glance:

  • Clients and colleagues can continue to use email as they are currently using.
  • Colleagues can CC an email address or you can FW their email to an email address to automatically send their communication to both email and MangoApps at once.
  • MangoApps automatically picks up emails on an interval or whenever the admin asks and the emails are delivered to the appropriate feed.

How does it work?

After an easy, one-time configuration, it just happens. MangoApps watches a configured email address for incoming emails then captures the information in the email as a feed that goes to whichever feed you have specified: Main, Group, or Project. It’s that easy.

In order for MangoApps to watch your email account for incoming emails, you must give MangoApps permission (account authentication) to go into the inbox and look for new messages. The interval on which MangoApps looks in the inbox can be specified in seconds or left as a manual task that needs to be explicitly completed by an MangoApps administrator.

Easy Steps to Get Started Now:

  1. Configure MangoApps to turn on the Email-to-Feed feature.
  2. Specify the email account for MangoApps to watch and the period on which to check for new emails.
  3. If a MangoApps Group or Project Feed is to receive emails from a specific account, configure the group’s email address.
  4. Send a test email to either the email you configured as the main feed or the email that you configured for a group or project feed.
  5. Have an administrator for a “Fetch Emails” action.
  6. Find the main feed, group, or project feed for the email you sent inside MangoApps.
