Announcing MangoApps’ Email-to-Feed Feature

July 26th, 2010

We are ecstatic to announce that with the latest release, you can now post feeds and comments to MangoApps directly from email. This new feature extends even further the “broadly socialized” information you communicate to your followers. This feature is, of course, available to all subscription plans immediately. Configure your email settings using the new UI and you’ll be able to forward emails from customers directly into the MangoApps main feed or to a group. If you’ve ever needed a reason to move even more communication and collaboration out of your email inbox and into MangoApps, then this release is your home run pitch to hit.

What is it and why should you care?

Email-to-Feed is the mechanism to get normal email communication out of your inbox and in front of the Main Feed, Project Feed, or Group Feed that your MangoApps followers are already watching. It saves time transposing emails into a document to attach to a MangoApps feed by allowing you to FW or CC an email into MangoApps feeds directly. Here’s an email from the user Play to the Poker group that MangoApps pulled in as a feed. Even more impressive, the user Ian was CC’d on the email and chose “Reply All” to the email and the email reply is listed as a comment to the feed.

Here is the idea at a glance:

  • Clients and colleagues can continue to use email as they are currently using.
  • Colleagues can CC an email address or you can FW their email to an email address to automatically send their communication to both email and MangoApps at once.
  • MangoApps automatically picks up emails on an interval or whenever the admin asks and the emails are delivered to the appropriate feed.

How does it work?

After an easy, one-time configuration, it just happens. MangoApps watches a configured email address for incoming emails then captures the information in the email as a feed that goes to whichever feed you have specified: Main, Group, or Project. It’s that easy.

In order for MangoApps to watch your email account for incoming emails, you must give MangoApps permission (account authentication) to go into the inbox and look for new messages. The interval on which MangoApps looks in the inbox can be specified in seconds or left as a manual task that needs to be explicitly completed by an MangoApps administrator.

Easy Steps to Get Started Now:

  1. Configure MangoApps to turn on the Email-to-Feed feature.
  2. Specify the email account for MangoApps to watch and the period on which to check for new emails.
  3. If a MangoApps Group or Project Feed is to receive emails from a specific account, configure the group’s email address.
  4. Send a test email to either the email you configured as the main feed or the email that you configured for a group or project feed.
  5. Have an administrator for a “Fetch Emails” action.
  6. Find the main feed, group, or project feed for the email you sent inside MangoApps.
